Been a long long while since I've done anything with DA...
There are reasons, but they have little to nothing to do with DA.
I like DA, or at least I did.
I've tried the new DA a few times now, they like to force it on you anytime you aren't looking, and I don't look often since I'm so inactive here.
It's still shit.
Why is it that every overhaul completely throws layouts down the shitter?
Every god damn product is catering to trash mobile platform vertical scrolling, single task, 0 attention span, real-estate hogging, button-obsessed, forced consumerism.
I hate it so much. Let me SEE THINGS. Not one thing, THINGS, PLURAL. Let me interact with those things, quickly.
Sometimes I wonder if these people have used the site they are developing.
I don't know about you guys, but I binge, really hard. I don't come on DA often, but as I've said I do like it. So when I have time, I hop on to my hundreds of notifications which are almost entirely just deviations and I open them. Dozens at a time. I max out my 8GB of RAM in like 30 seconds. I saturate my internet bandwidth and suffocate my processor as it tries to download, process and display all the deviations I'm opening.
I do a similar thing when I discover a new artist I like, I go through ALL their stuff.
It's one of the reasons I have over 600 tabs open right now. The tabs never go down, they only go up as I find more things.
In any case, this works for me, or did work in the old layout.
What's wrong with the new layout you ask?
No pages of deviation stacks
Dynamic resizing of image previews and button positions
Everything is centered
All of the buttons and toolbars are larger
Links to what I thought were fairly basic things like a friends list are completely lacking
Or deeply hidden not in a page of their own but in a "master" page that one must scroll through to navigate
Quicklinks toolbars appear to have been removed altogether
The site runs slower just in general though I can attribute that to all the dynamic work that's being done by the browser trying to figure out what it should and should not load in what location at what size because nothing has a dedicated absolute coordinate location or grid
Information that one might THINK should be together is instead spread out haphazardly (image size is under the description instead of with the rest of the image-relevant metadata? or next to the download button like it used to be)
Tons of links appear to straight up not work so the help center isn't helpful in the slightest with my personal favourite being the "how to report bug" article not actually showing you any means of reporting bugs... it just describes what you should put in your report should you ever find out how to file one
And for the biggest pet peeve of all the previews for everything are just generally larger than they need be so it is more of a hassle to visually scan through the vast amounts of content that exists here.
and so this COULD be the last time I actually interact with DA, since it seems just as intent as Google to disgust me with this casual layout BS that isn't ready to be rolled out in the slightest but they're gonna do it anyway.
I'll see you all in a couple of years, like I did when Google+ forced its way into Youtube until they finally split again. Never signed up for that garbage.
rig added to the end of them. Replace large with orig if :large is already there. Then save it, remove the -orig from the filename so it is usable.
